2024 Fantasy Outlook
A sixth-round pick out of Kansas State last year, Vaughn was a preseason darling for the Cowboys but then failed to make any kind of impression in the regular season. Darren Sproles remains the best-case scenario for a player with Vaughn's diminutive stature (5-6, 176), though it's not a great comparison given that Sproles was heavier (185-190 pounds), stronger and probably also faster. While probably little more than a gadget option or pass-catching specialist, Vaughn should at least have the chance to compete for playing time in a weak Dallas backfield led by Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle. Placed on IR with ankle injury
Vaughn was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with an ankle injury, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After a promising preseason, Vaughn failed to carve out a prominent role in the regular season. The 5-foot-6 running back out of Kansas State was frequently left inactive on game days and finishes his rookie campaign with 23 carries for 40 yards, as well as seven catches on as many targets for 40 yards.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be lone Dallas RB to return
Adam Schefter of ESPN points out that both Tony Pollard and Rico Dowdle are set to become free agents after Dallas' 48-32 loss to the Packers in the wild-card round Sunday, so Vaughn could be the only current member of the team's backfield to return in 2024.
ANALYSIS
Vaughn finished the season on injured reserve and missed the playoff loss to Green Bay due to an ankle injury. Pollard will be an unrestricted free agent while Dowdle will a restricted free agent, so the latter can be re-signed easily, while the Cowboys could opt to use the franchise tag on the former for a second consecutive season. Even if both free-agent running backs are let go, Dallas will likely bring in competition for Vaughn, who had just 40 rushing yards and 40 receiving yards as a rookie in 2023.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Vaughn is almost completely unprecedented as a 5-foot-5 running back, and his most applicable comparison in terms of frame and athleticism (the Patriots' J.J. Taylor) doesn't quite work because the two have different skill sets. More specifically, Vaughn is a much better receiver than Taylor. Vaughn will be a case study on whether a player with a 5-5, 179-pound frame can amount to more than Taylor on the basis of superior pass catching, but it's a narrow path with limited fantasy upside either way. Even the mighty Darren Sproles had to concede rushing workload limitations in the NFL, making his impact primarily through high-volume receiving and special teams. Vaughn doesn't have the returner route, so the 2023 sixth-round pick out of Kansas State needs to make it as a pass-catching back if he's to get snaps.
